Overall Restoration Project

The Basilica of Saint Mary, which is located in downtown Minneapolis, MN, was built in 1926. It is currently undergoing a major multi-year renovation. Details can be found on the Restoring Beauty Inspiring Hope website.

Liturgical Furniture

As part of the renovation project, the Basilica is having new liturgical furniture for the sanctuary altar area designed and built. Nick Markell of Markell Studios was commissioned to coordinate the ecclesial design. Richard Helgeson, a Minneapolis furniture maker who focuses on liturgical furniture, was contacted by the Nick regarding the need for new furniture. Given the scope of the project, Richard helped coordinate the formation of a larger team and separate company, Liturgical Furniture LLC, who are working together on the project.

Currently the Basilica has commissioned the below eleven pieces. The pieces are in the Beaux Arts style, which complements the architecture of the Basilica.
